FESTIVAL SURVIVAL GUIDE

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Coachella is upon us, with only two more days until the shenanigans kick off here in California, it’s time for my annual festival survival guide.  The accompanying images encompass my recent Falls Festival experience in Byron Bay, Australia.  Where my girlfriend Elle and I, decked ourselves head to toe in clothes from Spell and enough glitter to entertain a small child.  The three day festival is Australia’s answer to Coachella, where thousands of people gather to share their love for music in the North Byron Parklands. Tropical paradise.

Festival season is the time of the year you look forward to as soon as the last ones ends.  The anticipation and excitement matches the feelings you experienced when you were young, it’s like christmas and your birthday came at once.  From the day the line up is released to the day you start planning your outfits to the morning you wake up realising the countdown is over and the fun is about to begin.

To ensure a smooth and enjoying festival experience I suggest you follow the following:

FESTIVAL SURVIVAL GUIDE

1. WEAR BOOTS
It’s a dusty out there, it’s sandy, it’s messy! Protect your toes & wear boots.  Make sure they are comfy – you will be doing ALOT of dancing!
(find boots here)

2. PROTECT YOUR SKIN
Be sun smart – remember you are in the desert!
Slip, slop, slap
actually just wear either a hat or sunglasses, styling necessities that double as protection from sunburns and eye damage. (find hats here)

3. HYDRATE
Water, water and more water – and a hydrating face mist spray

4. DISPOSABLE CAMERA
Sand and Water proof your memories and have alot of fun developing them in a few weeks time!

5. LAYER UP
No matter how hot you are during the day, it WILL get cold!  Coachella is typically scorching hot throughout the day, then, as the sunsets, the temperature drops like crazy, so be prepared with some layers
If you can tie a denim shirt or jacket around your waist to compliment your outfit, you are set, if not, pack a knit that will keep you warm and won’t weigh out down.

6. WATER BOTTLE
Trust me on this, you are dancing all day long in the desert, water is essential, lines to get drinks are not (see #3). Bring your own water bottle you will be eco-friendly hydrated happy festival goer as you fill up your waterbottle through out the day, avoid lines & avoid heat exhaustion.

6. WEAR A BACK PACK
Your going to need something to carry your hydration, protection and warmth in, distributed evenly in a practical (but cute) backpack.

7. PACK RANDOM USE FUL ITEMS
You will be glad you followed #6 and have a backpack! Inside pack cash (avoid atm lines), ID, portable charging device (your phone runs out faster than you can imagine, I suggest aeroplane mode when you aren’t using it plus a charger), band aids, spare socks, lip balm & that hydrating mist I told you about!

7. BRING A WING (WO)MAN

Ok you can’t fit him or her into you back back, but trust me on this one, there is no better way to have fun than to bring your favourite human along to share the experience with!
