Pioneer Town – Joshua Tree – Travel Diary

Joshua Tree, a place where time stands still.
Formations of rugged rocks and stark barren landscapes dappled with twisted, bristled trees and gigantic granite boulders make up this vast area of southern California. Amongst this stark desert landscape between the Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert you will find cactus-dotted hiking trails weaving through huge rocks on a dusty terrain.  The sun is strong and the heat is intense, the mountain ranges blue in the distance behind the unspoilt desert scenery.  Hiking trails weave through the hidden valley and six oases whereCalifornian fan palm trees grow in their natural surroundings.  I strongly recommend more than a day trip, stay at least one night to experience the pastel sunsets and star filled night skies.

I suggest staying in Pioneer Town, created as a live-in Old West motion picture set in the 1940’s the town has as much character as it does charm.  What once was a place for actors to live whilst filming iconic western movies is now a place to experience something of a time warp.
