The sun begins to drop below the horizon reflecting iridescent colors around us as the sounds of the festival vibrate trough our bodies like waves. The sounds propagate a certain incomprehensible pressure on our chest and through our limbs, as if every wave of sound rolls through our being like the ocean, intensifying as we move to the beat of the music. This is Lightning in a Bottle.
My festival soul sister Corina (the superstar behind wild and free jewerly) and I hit the road to Lightning in a Bottle after doing what we do best, getting distracted. Unintentional procrastination of non-stop giggles, last minute arts and crafts projects and deep conversation (usually centred around ideas, serendipity, soul mates or social constructs) had us arriving late as per usual. We set up our teepee, Corina adorned it with her colorful collection of tapestries and we created a little living room area to connect our teepee with our neighbours tent. This festival was all about sharing and this was our first intention.
Every day I was completely overwhelmed by kindness at this festival, from the help of strangers setting up our tent without request, to free hugs, to gifted hair ties (this means a lot when they are few and far!) We stretched it out during day time yoga, we found healthy vegan food to nourish us from Lydia’s Organic food stall, we browsed the market place of hand made treasures, we danced to mesmerising beats of Jamie XX and we grooved at ecstatic dance.
I left the festival with an overwhelmingly inspired mind and a full heart. From the sounds that filled our ears to the art that opened our eyes to the incomprehensible love and generosity of strangers we met along the way. I left with the hope that we can transcend this to our daily lives and show generosity and kindness, not just to those in our lives, but also to strangers – more creativity, more appreciation, more random acts of kindness. Thank you Lightning in a Bottle for all that you have given me, and thank you to all the people that made these festival days so magical.
